See John Street Tell a Possibly NSFW Story at an Open Mic

These DNC-themed events sound way more fun than watching politicians stump at the convention.

Martha Graham Cracker at DNC @ Top of the Tower
On Tuesday, Equality PA is hosting Equality in the Sky, a Get Out the Vote fundraiser with Top of the Tower’s sweeping city views and a performance from Philly’s favorite — and seemingly busiest — drag queen, Martha Graham Cracker. Enjoy the show while rubbing shoulders with the political elite, including former governor/current chair of the DNC host committee Ed Rendell and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey.

StorySlam: Inside the Political Machine @ Johnny Brenda’s
Hear fellow Philadelphians tell true tales about their brushes with politics at this open mic story slam organized by Young Involved Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Citizen. The Wednesday night event, hosted by R. Eric Thomas, features a special guest: former Philly mayor John Street. Street told Young Involved Philadelphia the story he plans to share isn’t widely known, it happened while he was in office and there’s at least one part of it that may not be suitable for children. The other anecdotes will be from audience members, so if you’re feeling bold, show up prepared with your best five-minute “personal story of public life.”

Idiocracy @ PhilaMOCA’s DNCinema
If you’ve seen Mike Judge’s 2006 satire, you know why it feels fitting right now. Watch it at PhilaMOCA on Wednesday, and then come back on Thursday for the last in the DNCinema series: 1978 musical documentary Amateur Night at City Hall: The Story of Frank L. Rizzo. Filmmaker Robert Mugge will be there.
