qFlix, Blobfest and More in Movies

Phoenixville hosts Blobfest this weekend.

qFlix Philadelphia @ Prince Theater and UArts | Through July 10
LGBTQ film festival qFlix Philadelphia runs through Sunday, with more than 50 full-length films, shorts and documentaries — from Philly and far beyond — being screened at the Prince and University of the Arts’ Caplan Theater, plus qFlix events at Woody’s, Knock, Tavern on Camac, UBar, Boxers and the Sofitel. The fest closes with the East Coast premiere of rom-com Shared Rooms, with writer/director Rob Williams in attendance.

Open-air art museum Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey, is showing the best movie ever. Bring a chair or blanket. Avoid the lighting sand.

Creed @ Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing | Thursday, July 7
I don’t know if you all know this, but there’s a movie series about this dude named Rocky that people in Philly are kind of into. Watch Creed outside on the waterfront, part of Screenings Under the Stars.

Blobfest @ The Colonial Theatre | July 8-10
The gelatinous alien Blob makes his (her?) annual pilgrimage to the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, which appears in the movie — the film was shot locally. The weekend-long fest starts with a reenactment of the scene where people run out of the theater, but that’s sold out (can you reenact something that only happened the first time because it was in a movie script?), followed by a street fair and screenings of The Blob with other 1950s sci-fi horror flicks.

Minions @ Pleasant Playground | Friday, July 8
Next up in Mt. Airy’s Moonlight Movies series is the animated Minions. Buy dinner at one of the food trucks set up at the playground and make it a picnic.

Sundance Film Festival 2016 Short Film Tour @ PhilaMOCA | July 9-10
