Korey Riker @ Kimmel Center
Kimmel Center Jazz Residency artist Korey Riker will perform a world premiere of jazz songs inspired by EDM — the drum and bass–heavy electronic dance music. Known for his tenor saxophone skills, Riker has played with the likes of Erykah Badu, Elvis Costello, the Roots and John Legend.
Philadelphia Latino Film Festival Opening Night @ Kimmel Center
PHLAFF’s opening night celebration includes the Philly premieres of two short films, Normal and Being Ñ.

The Shame Symposium @ FringeArts
Experimental performance duo Chelsea & Magda take a look at pleasure and shame through dance and theater. If you miss it tonight, there are performances Saturday and Sunday.
Pride Kick-Off Party @ 12th and Locust streets
Philly’s Pride weekend starts with a block party in the Gayborhood. It’s worth stopping by if you’re going to Sunday’s festival at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing: festival entry wristbands, normally $15, will be discounted to $10 at the party.
Shawn Kilroy @ Brickbat Books
Musician/performer/poet Shawn Kilroy is out with a new album, All Pinocchio’s Men. In a Facebook post he promises to “be talkin my s— and singing some songs” at Brickbat.

The Dungeon Comedy Night celebrates one year, with local comedians doing stand-up and improv. Beer is only $2, so everyone will seem extra funny.

Philebrity brings its annual dance party outside for the first time, and they picked one of Philly’s favorite new(ish) venues.
Prom Forever @ World Café Live
Any prom hosted by Johnny Showcase is going to beat out your high school experience by a mile. Johnny Showcase & the Mystic Ticket — part performance art, part super-talented musicians delighting the crowd with psychedelic soul — will get you grooving, along with Birdie Busch, Nik Greeley, Red 40 and DJ Robert Drake. The event is a benefit for research into the disease CJD.
ARTspiration @ Fleisher Art Memorial
Fleisher hosts its annual outdoor community festival, with art-making activities led by local artists (kids welcome), plus music and dance performances by Spiral Q, DJ Mike Vee, and more.
Radio 104.5’s Birthday Show @ BB&T Pavilion
Twenty One Pilots headline this Radio 104.5 concert, with Awolnation, Catfish and the Bottleman, the Front Bottoms, Mutemath, and a bunch more. It’s almost sold out.
Straight White Men @ InterAct Theatre Company
Surprises are in store in InterAct’s production of Young Jean Lee’s play about three adult brothers visiting their dad for Christmas. Theater critic David Fox wonders if the playwright — an Asian woman — was satirizing the likes of David Mamet and Neil LaBute. It runs through June 19.

WXPN brings English singer-songwriter Beth Orton to the Foundry for an intimate show. But don’t expect quiet acoustic strums — the songs off her new album, Kidsticks, infuse kicky electronic loops.
Plein Air @ Chestnut Hill
About 50 artists will set up easels along Germantown Avenue to make art in the open air. They’re competing for cash or a free booth at the neighborhood’s Fall for the Arts Festival in October. The event will have a festival feel too, with live music and kids’ activities.
36 Views @ Lantern Theater Company
Theater critic David Fox was torn about this Philadelphia premiere, calling it “hugely ambitious” and “visually gorgeous” but expressing some qualms about the characters. It runs through June 26.
Roma: The Silent Film @ University of the Arts
This 25-minute silent film, being screened as part of the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival, won the Audience Award at the International Puerto Rican Heritage Film Festival in New York. There will be a Q&A with the filmmakers.
La Familia Reyna @ Kimmel Center
The Philadelphia Latino Film Festival closes with this comedic drama out of the Dominican Republic about a rebellious son returning home.
Odunde Festival @ 23rd and South streets
This is one of the biggest African-American festivals in the country, with live music, African, Caribbean and Soul food, and all types of vendors stretching out across 12 blocks.

Join up for the parade, which goes from 13th and Locust to Penn’s Landing, or head straight to the fest at the Great Plaza (with the discounted wristband you bought at the kick-off party).
