Philadelphia Orchestra Offering Innovative Reduced Price College Programs

For many youth, the cost of attending a fine arts performance can be utterly daunting, especially if they are in school or working low-wage jobs. But, as usual, The Philadelphia Orchestra is offering several key initiatives this upcoming season that will allow students to experience the world-class musical ensemble for a fraction of the normal cost.

For starters, they’ll be holding a Free College Concert on Tuesday, October 20th at 8 pm at the Kimmel Center, featuring Donald Runnicles, Conductor, and Johannes Moser on the Cello. They’ll be performing Elgar’s Cello Concerto and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8. Tickets are, as the title suggests, free, but you must reserve them, print them, and bring a full-time student ID to the Kimmel in order to get in. Also, the Orchestra is offering $25 student memberships, otherwise known as eZseatU. Full-time college students can enroll in the program for a one time fee of $25. After they enroll, students can get free tickets to over 80 concerts throughout the season, plus the ability to reserve additional student seats for $8 at most performances. They also have access to special college night activities and can reserve and print tickets at home. You can check out this program by visiting the eZseatU webpage.

There’s also opportunities for students to purchase $8 Rush Tickets at the Kimmel Center box office approximately 90 minutes before each concert. Again, you must have a full-time college student ID, and the tickets are subject to availability. There’s also the ability to purchase Student Understudy Tickets online for $10 starting the Tuesday before each concert at noon. For further information on both of these programs, click here.
