Philly’s Own Yannick Nézet-Séguin Opens Met Opera Season

The Philadelphia Orchestra’s own Yannick Nézet-Séguin will be opening the season at New York’s Metropolitan Opera this September in a brand new production of Verdi’s intense drama Otello.

The new staging, which is directed by Broadway and opera veteran Bartlett Sher (recent revivals of The King and I and South Pacific) will open on September 21st at the iconic venue and play through May 6th. Based on Shakespeare’s dark tragedy, Otello is considered by many to be one of Verdi’s greatest dramatic works, and it provides a true challenge for the opera’s leading players.

Talented tenor Aleksandrs Antonenko stars as the title character, with the ravishing Sonya Yoncheva playing the doomed Desdemona. Tickets for the Met’s production start at $27 and can be purchased by visiting the Met’s website.
