Thanks to Philadelphia Film Society (PFS), the marquee is twinkling at Prince Theater again. The historic structure was bankrupt and all but extinct, when, in March, PFS swept in to save it. Since then, Prince Theater has rolled out some fine local entertainment, including a production by the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus. This weekend, though, it’s gearing up for summer with its promised film programming, which will make it the only movie theater in Center City where you can catch a mainstream flick.

A rep from PFS tells me that the theater was recently updated with a DCP digital projector, RealD 3D capabilities, and state-of-the-art Dolby surround sound capabilities. That will get tried out this weekend with the first film on its itinerary, Disney’s Tomorrowland, which releases at the Prince and nationwide on Friday, May 22nd.

The film is helmed by two-time Oscar-winning director Brad Bird, and stars George Clooney. PFS explains the premise:

Bound by a shared destiny, former boy-genius Frank (Clooney), jaded by disillusionment, and Casey (Britt Robertson), a bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity, embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space known only as “Tomorrowland.” What they must do there changes the world—and them—forever.

The film screens every day of the week between May 22nd and June 11th, just before the next movie, Disney-Pixar’s Inside Out, begins on June 16th. Showtimes vary, with three or four options each day, and ticket prices range from $6 to $13 bucks. For more information on showtimes and to purchase tickets, go here.
