Kimmel Offering Free Dirty Dancing-Themed Lunch Event This Friday

Nobody puts baby in a corner—especially when she's hangry.

If you’re a fan of the iconic dance-filled movie Dirty Dancing, then on Friday, March 13 at noon, take an extra-long lunch break and head over to the Kimmel Center’s “Dirty Lunch,” a free afternoon of events celebrating the classic movie-turned-musical headed to Philly later in the month.

The event will feature free dance lessons from Society Hill Dance Academy for all skill levels, plus performances from talented Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts students reenacting famous dance numbers from the movie.

If you have two left feet and the cha-cha isn’t your thing, there will be trivia contests based on the film, a watermelon-carrying contest (à la the famous scene in the movie), and karaoke (I wonder how many people will be belting out “Time Of My Life?”). Of course, since this is a lunch break, the Garces folks will be serving up plenty to chow down on.

While you’re there, you can purchase your tickets to the upcoming engagement of Dirty Dancing: The Musical playing the Academy of Music March 24 through April 5.
