Sarah Jessica Parker May Be Returning to HBO [UPDATED]

UPDATE: I heard back from Barbara Laker, and she tells me that SJP is still on board with the series based on Busted, and that she’ll be doing both shows.

ORIGINAL: Philly was abuzz last June when it was announced that Sarah Jessica Parker was making a TV comeback to star in a series based on Busted, a memoir by Daily News reporters Barbara Laker and Wendy Ruderman that chronicles the making of their Pulitzer-winning “Tainted Justice” series.

Those plans seemed to have changed, though, if you believe this recent Deadline post that says Parker is indeed making a TV comeback but not the one we thought. She’s expected to star and executive produce a half-hour, single-camera comedy called Divorce. A description from Deadline.

The project, which is awaiting a formal pilot green light, is being written by British writer-actress Sharon Horgan. It tells the story of a very, very long divorce and is expected to be produced in New York where Parker lives and Sex And The City also was based. Paul Simms, who has been helping another female actress-creator, Lena Dunham, on her New York-based HBO comedy Girls, has been tapped to assist Horgan as executive producer/co-showrunner. Horgan will executive produce through her Merman Films, along with long-time collaborator Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment. Parker and Alison Benson will executive produce through Parker’s Pretty Matches Prods.

I guess in theory, SJP could be working on two shows at once, but it’s not likely. I reached out to Laker and Ruderman to glean more information, but have yet to hear back. I’ll let you know if I do.
