It’s not what you’d expect to hear from a Golden Globe nominee, but Ellen Pompeo, known for her iconic role as Meredith Grey in the hit television series Grey’s Anatomy, is ready to say goodbye to acting.

The actress, who participated in a live Buzzfeed interview about Shonda Rhimes‘ shows Wednesday evening with Viola Davis and Kerry Washington, made it clear that she’s lost her desire for acting after the extremely long stint in Grey’s:

“I feel myself transitioning. I don’t find acting terribly empowering. For the place I am in my life … I don’t necessarily want to work for other people…With acting, I don’t feel I have anything to prove anymore …I’d like to try and challenge myself. I feel like I got the acting thing. I would like to try and see if I could do something different, and be successful at something different. I feel like I’m very successful at acting, at my definition of success.”

Grey’s Anatomy has been on air since 2005 and is entering its 11th season at the end of September.
