DO THIS: Pop Up Community Offers Sneak Peek at Spring Garden Greenway

On September 20th the section of Spring Garden between 9th and 10th streets will be transformed into a vibrant commercial corridor that offers a small taste of a proposed project that seeks to turn Spring Garden into a greener, more-pedestrian-friendly thoroughfare.

The one-day-only pop up will feature interactive art installations, bike parades, food trucks (Gigi’s, Luscious Bakery, The Whirley Pig and more), a pop-up beer garden and live entertainment from Philly bands and DJs.

Organizers hope the event will spark community interest in the Pennsylvania Environmental Council‘s Spring Garden Street Greenway project, which is described as a 2.2-mile connection between the Schuylkill River and the Delaware River that will feature “a linear park and urban trail with a new bikeway that is separate from traffic. The Greenway will also offer additional recreation and commuting space for walkers, joggers and cyclists and will incorporate storm water infrastructure to manage runoff more sustainably.”

Sounds pretty cool. I’d like to suggest they do the same thing to Washington Avenue. How nice would that be?!
