Tomorrow night, June 26th, Awesome Fest and UCD are teaming up to kick off a new eight-week movie series in Clark Park that features no less than five world premieres. The first of the screenings is Steve Tozzi’s Riot On the Dance Floor. The documentary tells the story of New Jersey club promoter Randy Now and his infamous nightclub City Gardens. The venue hosted an eclectic mix of entertainers — from comedy Henny Youngman to the Nine Inch Hails and Gwar.
Other world premieres showing during the festival's run are Sundance favorite Living Stars, Death Metal Angola, Jingle Bell Rocks, and David McMahon's Skanks. For the lovers of oldies-but-goodies, check out the 75th anniversary screening of The Wizard of Oz on July 10th, presented — in true Awesome Fest fashion — in sync with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. Return on August 7th for Brian De Palma's goth-inspired Phantom of the Opera retelling, Phantom of the Paradise, which turns 30 this year.
This outing in Clark Park is but a smidgen of what else Awesome Fest is showing this summer. To find the full lineup — and particularly info on a performance by Macaulay Culkin’s The Pizza Underground on Friday, July 18th — go here.
