The Roots MC Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter is teaming with Mural Arts on a new project honoring hip-hop musician and Philly HIV advocate Dr. Shawn “Air Smooth” White. White was a member of hip-hop group Divine Beings, and he worked with the Roots, but perhaps his most impactful legacy will be his work to spearhead public health initiatives on HIV/AIDS and other STDs threatening Philly’s African-American male community.

Dr. White passed away in 2013, but his legacy will live on in this TBA mural project. Details are mum until the press conference, which takes place at 10 a.m. next Wednesday, April 9th, at Audenried Charter High School in Point Breeze. Stay tuned to Ticket for more details.
