Sittin’ In With Laurin Talese: Philly jazz diva Laurin Talese is the guest vocalist at this month’s free “Sittin’ In” jam session at the Kimmel Center. Talese is a former backup singer for neo-soul singers Bilal, Jaguar Wright and Vivian Green, and she recently signed with a new label to venture out into a solo career of her own. BalletX Winter Series: The dancers at BalletX present works by a handful of award-winning choreographers, including the world premieres of Joshua L. Gesualdo, in Heaven: Philly puppet arts pioneer Peter Gaffney presents this work about 16th-century Italian murderer-nobleman Carlo Gesualdo that “investigates the insomnia, delirium, paranoia and genius of a man whose legacy marks the progressive dissolution of our ability to think [about] the world as a coherent whole.” The characters will be portrayed by life-size wooden puppets womanned by Jordi Wallen, Sarah Schol and Tabitha Allen.
