Butterfly Ball 2013 Preview Party

Guests and honorees gathered at Boyds for a sneak peek at Living Beyond Breast Cancer's October gala.

Boyds Philadelphia hosted the preview party for the Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s annual Butterfly Ball on Thursday, June 27th. This year’s gala will be held on Saturday, October 12th, at the Hyatt at the Bellevue. Here, Joe Manko, one of the event co-chairs, addresses the crowd. His daughter-in-law, Marni Manko, is being honored — along with Rev. Dr. Lorina Marshall Blake, Amy Lessack, and Susannah Wolf — with the Going Beyond Award, which recognizes individuals who have used their personal experience with breast cancer to help others.

After testing positive in 2005 for BRCA2, one of breast cancer genes, Marni voluntarily had a double mastectomy — eight years before Angelina Jolie announced she had undergone the same surgery.
