HughE Dillon One-Shot: Eva Marie Saint at the Prince

The star of North by Northwest visits Philly on "Road to Hollywood" tour.

Turner Classic Movies’ “Road to Hollywood” tour came to Philly last night and brought along legendary actress Eva Marie Saint (second from left) and TCM weekend host Ben Mankiewicz (right). The 10-city tour is part of a campaign to promote the vintage film network’s annual TCM Classic Film Festival (April 12-15) in Hollywood. Saint, now 87, was feted at the Ritz-Carlton with a private party before heading over to the packed house at the Prince Theater for a Q&A and screening of her movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock, North by Northwest. At the party were notables from Turner Broadcasting and Comcast, along with Sharon Pinkenson (left), executive director of the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, and film critic Carrie Rickey (second from right), who introduced Saint and Mankiewicz to the audience at the Prince. Saint told me she used to visit Philly often in the ’70s when her sister was alive and lived in West Chester. She and her husband were also good friends with Andrew Wyeth. The Q&A was very enjoyable, and Saint has the most delicious sense of humor. What a joy it must have been to work with her.
