HughE Dillon: The Annual Henri David Halloween Ball

Plus an accident on the set of Jason Statham's movie

This weekend, Safe, the latest major motion picture shooting in Philadelphia, was the site of two accidents — including one that required paramedics to race to the scene. For more details on the party, check out my slideshow. In lighter news, Henri David threw his annual Halloween bash. Guests included two political heavyweights — can you guess who?

Celebrity Sightings

Jason Statham and Lawrence Bender had dinner at Smith & Wollensky with a group around 8:30 p.m. on Friday night. Afterward, they went to G Lounge, where they were safely secured in the Vault. More than a few of the regulars were kept out so they could party in peace. Then, the group headed to Whisper where they ended their night around 2:30 a.m.

VH1’s Tough Love star  Steve Ward was spotted at Whisper. I didn’t have a chance to say hi as he was giving a little tough love to a young lady dressed as a nurse. Ward’s show has been picked up for another season, so he will be traveling to a new city to give his unique style of Tough Love.

On Sunday, Governor Ed Rendell and gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato were spotted at the Henri David Ball. The Gov goes every year, and I hope that continues
after he leaves office. Daily News columnist Stu Bykofsky judged the event. Check out the slide show for some of the pictures.

Community Note

Franny Price, owner of Spruce Street Video, tells me there have been about 50 cell phones stolen right out of people hands between Chestnut and Pine streets between 10th and Broad streets. The crimes have occurred between noon and 9 p.m. The most recent incident happened on the steps of the William Way Center around 8 p.m. on Thursday evening. Several of the incidents occurred while the phones’ owners were texting and/or talking on their cells.

Meg Rider, director of development and communications for MANNA, has left the position and will work at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital as the community programs coordinator.

Randal Mrazik, general manager of Sampan, has moved down the street to manage Terra as well as the club above Tavern on Camac.
