• Everyone is always trying to up their servings of so-called superfoods, but are ALL of them really all that super? Turns out chia seeds, a very well-known face in the superfood world, might not be quite as magical as you think. [Refinery29] Read more »
• We’ve already told you where to get the best veggie burgers at restaurants around Philly and now, this list dishes out the most flavorful, satisfying store-bought veggie burgers, none of which taste like soy rubber. And Trader Joe’s fans, rejoice: their Quinoa Cowboy Veggie Burgers made the list! [Eat Clean]
Last week, we asked you guys this very important question: Who has the best veggie burger in Philly? And boy, did you answer. You named everywhere from Strangelove’s to Devil’s Alley to Monk’s to Village Whiskey to Memphis Taproom—their veggie burger is topped off with coconut bacon, people!—to The Cedars House, and more (check out all the comments here). But there were some clear leaders in the pack, and we’ve listed them off for you below. My suggestion: Read up, and get to one of these five spots, stat.
Although there’s been some residual anger over accused sexual assaulter Bill Cosby and the couple charged with torturing and killing a three-year-old boy, a rather heated debate over where the best veggie burger can be found in Philadelphia (talk about First World Problems), nausea brought on by the Sixers (but, really, that’s nothing new), a scuffle over stores being open on Thanksgiving, some talk about spitting in public, embarrassment for the guy who spent $82,000 on a lame proposal scheme that involved iPhones, and disappointment over LeSean McCoy’s lackluster performance, it seems that the only thing that people here are really outraged about en masse is…
…the same thing that people everywhere are outraged about: the naked ass of a fame whore who is married to one of the biggest pieces of crap in society, whether said outrage is over the mere existence of the photo, outrage over the Photoshopping of the photo, outrage over the fact that people are sharing the photo more often than the common cold, or feminist outrage at the people who are outraged at said fame whore for posing for the photo. Frankly, we’d much rather have people sharing this photo of a girl than that one.
Ordering a veggie burger is risky business: You can end up with a pile of mush just barely being held together by two buns, or a bean patty that’s been doused in every single spice under the sun, or a completely flavorless concoction drowned in a brick of melted cheese—we’ve all had one of those, right? And these disappointing experiences are exactly why I go back to my trusty favorite—Village Whiskey’s guacamole-topped creation—again and again and again. But hey, a girl’s got to switch it up every now and then, and that’s where you come in. We want to know, Be Wellers: What is your favorite veggie burger in Philly? Ready, set, comment!
Travel + Leisure named Philadelphia the no. 2 burger city in all of America this year jumping up from last year’s paltry no. 22, and second only to Providence, Rhode Island, which, if we’re being honest, at less than 21 square miles barely counts as a city anyway.
So with that said, by my count that makes the City of Brotherly Love the best burger town in the US of A. So with cheesesteaks and burgers it looks like we’ve got the meat thing down. But what to do about our vegan brothers and sisters? Luckily, it looks like Philly is improving on this front as well, serving up killer veggie burgers at some of the same joints making our top meaty burgers. Even if you’re not a vegetarian, try one of these six options on for size. Who knows? Maybe you’ll convert. (But probably not.)
