We’re not sure if this is fallout from the current superheated real estate market, but we’ve noticed that there are slim pickings at our middle-of-the-market price point almost anywhere we look outside the city of late.
Communities where we’d expect to find several houses priced in the vicinity of $500,000 have none, and none seem to have them in abundance.
Dresher, near Fort Washington in Montgomery County’s Upper Dublin Township, is a case in point. You can find nearly three dozen homes in the $500,000 to $1 million range, including a passel of new homes near the community’s northern tip, but the homes selling around $500K number exactly five.
The three we chose to feature vary in style and floor plans, but they all share four things in common. All of them are spacious. All of them are in great shape. All of them have fireplaces as a central design feature. And all of them have spacious rear decks where you can relax or entertain outdoors.

Just yesterday we brought you a story about Kensington’s Urban Education Academy’s lockdown after a school officer’s gun was stolen from his car. The officer’s firearm has yet to be recovered, according to Philadelphia Police spokeswoman Tanya Little.
But there’s another investigation into a missing gun, this one in Abington Township. The Abington Township Police Department wrote a Facebook post Monday night warning the public of the firearm lost in the Ardsley and North Hills sections of both Upper Dublin and Abington Townships.
Abington police say that an Upper Dublin resident lost her gun while jogging this past Saturday evening, January 30th. Read more »
You don’t have to spend a million dollars to live like a millionaire — at least, if living like a millionaire means owning a home with lots of amenities. This house has an asking price under a million, and boy, does it have perks. Let’s make a list of just some of them:
– cigar room
– wine fridge
– theater room with projector w 9′ screen and surround sound
– wet bar
– billiard area
– 6 person sauna
– cigar room
– wine cellar
– multiple fireplaces
– pool with cascading waterfall
– hot tub
Of all the amenities, though, the one we’re more excited about is the “working phone booth.” Those are hard to find these days. Gallery below.

The winter wasn’t easy on this Dresher estate. The listing says all four of the buildings on site sustained some water damage, so they will need your attention if you’re the successful buyer at auction on May 28.
On the other hand: four buildings! This estate includes the main house, a pool house, a cottage and a barn. In addition to the pool, there is a darling stone bridge for strolling, a series of gardens and the most interesting laundry room/grotto we have ever seen.
