Chip Kelly will be the next head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Jed York, the CEO of the 49ers, announced the news on Twitter.

San Francisco was the only team Kelly reportedly interviewed with, partially because of Kelly’s relationship with Tom Gamble. The Eagles fired Gamble, who was the Vice President of Player Personnel in Philadelphia, at the end of 2014. Gamble is now San Francisco’s senior personnel executive. Read more »

Tom Gamble has a new home.

The former Eagles vice president of player personnel is back in San Francisco as a senior personnel executive with the 49ers, the team announced.

“Tom is one of the most experienced, knowledgeable and respected personnel men in the business,” 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement. “He played an instrumental role in our personnel department from 2005-2012 and is well versed in our system having played a role in its development. On Chip/Howie And Speculation

The decision to part ways with Tom Gamble this week has led many to understandably wonder what’s next. Speculation about further fallout from the Gamble move was put into overdrive when Pro Football Talk offered the following:

A likely conclusion to jump to is that either Chip Kelly or Howie Roseman are on their way out. Our understanding is that there is a move forthcoming, but it does not involve the departure of either Kelly or Roseman. Logic suggests that it will be front-office related.  Les Bowen offers this theory:

Senior Bowl Diary: A Year Later, Eagles Feeling Settled


MOBILE, Ala. – Five days after the Eagles hired Chip Kelly, he was in Mobile, Ala. attending Senior Bowl practices.

In less than a week, he had made a life-changing decision, delivered a tearful goodbye to his players at Oregon, addressed the fans and media in Philadelphia and gotten started on the scouting process for the 2013 draft.

And then there was Howie Roseman.

Andy Reid and Joe Banner were gone, but the Eagles’ GM was by Jeffrey Lurie’s side as the owner hand-picked the organization’s next head coach. Roseman was tasked with finding out what Kelly wanted from a personnel standpoint and getting the team back on track after a disastrous 4-12 campaign.

A year later, with an NFC East title under their belts, the decision-makers in the Eagles’ organization feel a much greater sense of stability. Read more »

Bucs, Dolphins Want To Interview Gamble

The Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Bucs have notified the Eagles of their intention to interview Tom Gamble for their vacant general manager positions, a source confirmed.

Adam Caplan was first with the report.

Interested teams do not have to request permission for an interview when it comes to potential promotions of this stature, but instead notify the current employer of their intentions. It is not yet clear whether Gamble will accept the opportunity to interview for these jobs. Read more »
