‘Tis the season for retrospectives, for looking back on a year well done and giving yourself a big ol’ pat on the back. When we looked back on all the posts we generated this year, we couldn’t help but notice a trend: Philly is one kick-ass place to be healthy and fit. There’s truly something here for everyone. Check out our favorite posts of the year and relive the good times. Here’s to even more awesomeness in 2015.
Let’s take a look back on 2014 with our health-and-fitness glasses on, shall we? Here’s what got us psyched to run, eat, play and more in Philly this year.
This past Saturday, 3,500 runners made their way through 6.2 miles of the city’s streets in the very first Philly 10K. After a serious sweat session, runners were greeted with a cup of cold beer and some creamy custard at the finish line, because they freakin’ deserved it! Needless to say, it was an awesome day. And there is plenty of photographic evidence to prove it: Here, our 10 favorite Instagram shots of the big day. (The first comes courtesy of Be Well Philly’s Instagram—we caught a video of the very first male runner to pass our booth!)
You didn’t think we were going to leave you high, dry and music-less for the Philly 10K this weekend, did you? Even if you don’t run with music (who are you?!), you can totally use the playlist below to get yourself amped beforehand.
You’ll find a nice solid mix of classic, upbeat running-playlist songs, with some oh-so-Philly songs thrown in for good measure because—duh—this is the Philly 10K, after all, a race meant to celebrate all that is good and awesome about our city.
14 Things to Do in Philly This Weekend: Sips at Dilworth Park, Vintage Baseball, Great Philadelphia Craft Beer Crawl, and More
Ahhhh! It’s almost here! The Philly 10K is coming up this weekend, and we couldn’t be more excited. Whether you’re planning on running or spectating, here’s everything you need to know, from how to get to the starting area to where the Porta Potties will be (important!) to which coffee shops along the course will be open (you’re welcome, spectators!).
Here it is, hot off the presses (quite literally), folks.
If you weren’t able to get a bib for The Philly 10K this year, I’ve got some good news for you: The race is looking for volunteers, and they’ve got some pretty sweet perks for folks who sign up. Each volunteer will get a Philly 10K shirt, a $20 gift card to Philadelphia Runner, free beer and—drumroll, please—the ability to register for next year’s race before registration opens. Say whaaat?!
The folks at Philadelphia Runner are delivering on their promise to serve up a special beer honoring the first-ever Philly 10K and the Philly running community. (Don’t believe me? Check out the sick label on the left, and click it to make it bigger. So many running clubs!)
Brewed by none other than Philadelphia Brewing Company, the beer is meant to toast the September 6th race and local runners alike. It’ll be tapped at the pre-race expo at the Italian Market on Thursday, September 4th, and be served at the festival after the race on the 6th.
Here’s what Philadelphia Runner’s Ryan Callahan has to say about the so-named Philadelphia Runner’s Ale:
Can you believe that as of this Saturday, we’re just three weeks out from The Philly 10K? I hope you’re as jazzed as we are. The folks over at Philadelphia Runner still have a few surprises up their sleeve for this debut race, so stay tuned as we reveal them in the days ahead.
For now, I want you to add Thursday, August 21st to your calendar for our second and final group training run for the Philly 10K. Go ahead. Open your Google Calendar. I’ll wait …
