Check Out Dr. Seuss’s “Unorthodox Taxidermy” Down the Shore This Weekend.

When you see an illustration by Theodor Geisel – known best by his pseudonym Dr. Seuss – there’s no mistaking it. Seuss’s work possesses its own inimitable style that has the uncanny ability to transport you instantly back to childhood when you see it.

A little known fact about the good Doctor (who wasn’t actually a doctor, of course) is that he had a secret passion: crafting whimsical three-dimensional art in his spare time. It’s been 80 years since Dr. Seuss produced what he called his largely unseen “Collection of Unorthodox Taxidermy” – which is now on display at Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor through Monday. Burgeoning Restaurant Empire at the Shore


There’s a burgeoning restaurant empire down the shore right now called Bread+Butter Restaurant Group. You may know of a few of their restaurants: Stone Harbor’s Quahog’s Seafood Shack, the attached Taco Shop and The Red Store in Cape May. What you might not have known, though, is that they now have their very own farm, Fincas del Mar (which Google translates to “marine farms”). Once full harvest has been reached at the farm, each restaurant location will purvey roughly 75% of their produce from the farm for their set seasonal menus, with the exception of exotic or non-local produce.

And besides the fact that Quahog’s has basically become a Stone Harbor staple, and their Taco Shop is such a perfect little addition to it, it’s The Red Store news that gets me all giddy.

White Heron Grill in Stone Harbor

White Heron Grill has replaced Blackfish Stone Harbor this season and chef Carl Messick (formerly of Cape May’s Ebbett Room) is serving up classic American shore fare.

The dinner menu includes starters in the $8 to $14 range and main courses from $25 to $35. There is also a 3-course dinner from 5 to 6pm for $30. A bar menu keeps the bites in the $8 to $15 range.
