Set a reminder, program your DVRs; Project Runway season 15 is right around the corner. Adding a little Philadelphia spice to the competition is Mah-Jing Wong (pronounced “Mun-Gene-Wong”), Philly-native and 2011 Art Institute of Philadelphia grad. The Philly designer describes his designs as very “denim-focused” with lots of Asian influences. Also featured this season is San Franciscan Alex Snyder, who lived in Philly for 3 years before heading out west (it totally counts). Read more »
If you’ve been paying attention to the latest season of Project Runway: All Stars, we hope you’ve been rooting for Season 12 winner and West Philly native Dom Streater, who has cemented her rightful place in the final three after winning last week’s challenge with this gorgeously printed ensemble.
What you might not know is that the 26-year old Moore College of Art and Design grad has officially merged her signature splashy patterns with high-tech accessories. PHOTOS: We Want Every Single Piece from ‘Project Runway’ Winner Dom Streater’s Spring/Summer Collection
Last night, Project Runway winner and Philly native Dom Streater unveiled her spring/summer 2014 capsule collection at Knit Wit in Rittenhouse. The collection featured the bold patterns and wearable silhouettes that we’ve come to expect from the young designer, all rendered in a lightweight silky faille material (otherwise known as polyester).
Philly native and Moore College of Art & Design grad, Dom Streater, stole the show on October 17th with her Project Runway win. The 24-year-old former hostess was a competitor from the get-go, favoring retro-cum-feminine pieces that caught the eye of Heidi Klum—as well as her fellow contestants. Shoppist got a chance to talk to Streater today about what happened behind the scenes (think people warring over sewing machines), Tim Gunn’s god-like presence, and her fall/winter ’14 collection.
Oh, and Samuel L. Jackson.
