The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Bart Blatstein has sold 60% of his interest in the Piazza at Schmidts and Liberties Walk. Kushner and Oaktree Capital Management L.P., a real estate investment fund are the buyers and the Inquirer estimates the deal is worth $130 million to Blatstein.
It would appear the deal gives Blatstein a cash infusion for his North Broad casino project, The Provence.

PYT’s burger of the week has really outdone itself. It’s a burger taco with 100% bacon shell. Only 20 orders per day.
We love the 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. happy hour and salute the bars that offer it. Emmanuelle is now in that class with their Entre Vous happy hour, offered 6 to 8 p.m. Skip the beers but consider the $7 cocktails.

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone and December is peeking around the corner, it is acceptable to start getting into the holiday spirit. Crank up the Michael Buble Christmas album, break out the strands of lights and pull out your favorite latke recipes. Along with these classic preparations, also head to the Piazza at Schmidts for the Holiday Food Truck Round Up.
This Saturday, December 1st, food trucks are gathering at the Piazza to kick of the holiday season, but not just the upcoming holidays. Rather, they are celebrating all the holidays, from Independence Day to Cinco de Mayo. Each truck will have their own holiday theme with dishes to match. The day will also mark the beginning of Philly Mobile Food Association’s month long partnership with Philabundance. The trucks will be collecting canned goods, so come ready to give and ready to eat.
It will be the perfect end to a day of shopping at the Northern Liberties Shopping Spree.

Emmanuelle, the cocktail parlor from Tommy Up opens tonight facing away from Piazza at Schmidts both literally and figuratively. The bar faces Hancock Street behind Up’s PYT and also aims to be something very different than what is available on the Piazza. The cocktail lounge is adorned with sexy velvet wallpaper, odd portraits of Napoleon Bonaparte and Farah Fawcett, a Adam Wallacavage octopus chandelier and just enough nooks to disappear into. The drink list is designed by Katie Loeb and turned out by Phoebe Esmon and Michael Burleigh.
For those who have turned away from the Piazza, Emmanuelle offers some sexy sophistication.

Northern Liberties and the Piazza at Schmidt’s are getting a new bar. Tommy Up is opening Emmanuelle, a craft cocktail bar located on the Piazza but facing Hancock Street behind PYT. Author and bartender Katie Loeb has designed the drink menu and Phoebe Esmon (Farmers’ Cabinet, Kennett, Chick’s) will be behind the bar.
The name Emmanuelle is inspired by French soft-porn films of the 70s. The bar will open to the public on Wednesday, November 22nd.
Emmanuelle’s drink menu will feature a wide selection of aperitifs, sparkling cocktails, French cocktail classics and new twists featuring French spirits. A curated selection of wines and beers will also be available.

A shooting outside PYT on the Piazza at Schmidt’s leaves Maurice Kimble, 25, of Upper Darby dead. The shooting happened just after midnight when an altercation spilled out of PYT and onto the Piazza.
Three years ago Rian Thal and Timothy Gilmore were killed in the hallway of Thal’s apartment building at The Piazza and just last month, Donte Johnson was convicted in the rape and murder of PYT waitress Sabina Rose O’Donnell.

We’ve reached out for a full beer list but in the meantime, here’s what we can deduce from the photo above:

It seems like just months ago that I was telling you about Sansom Street sushi joint Raw getting an outpost at Bart Blastein’s mixed-use 80,000-square foot revolving door aka The Piazza at Schmidts, replacing Shola Olunloyo’s ill-fated Speck project. Oh wait. That’s because it was just months ago. Well, after what I hear was one helluva New Years’ Eve party at the complex (even my Enterprise car rental guy in Upper Darby said so), word comes that Raw is no longer open for business. Read more »
