Remember what a big deal it was when Crumbs Bake Shop came to town? We reported on the announcement, tracked the location in Rittenhouse Square and it even made the news when their awning went up. Cupcake aficionados were honestly excited about this publicly-traded, bi-coastal operation coming to Philly.
Well, now the Rittenhouse location is closed. It lasted just over a year in its space, and such a rapid departure for a proven operation like Crumbs has us thinking: Does this closure say something about us as a city?

Well, not totally free, but free enough. On Thursday, December 12, all local Krispy Kreme donut shops are offering a free dozen original glazed with the purchase of a dozen of any variety. This is all happening because of some kind of Facebook promotion that I don’t really understand (or care about) because the only part of the press release I really read was the part that said FREE DONUTS. (and the part that said you need to bring this coupon with you–so don’t forget it)
So anyway, to recap: Krispy Kreme, Thursday, December 12, buy a dozen, get a dozen free with this coupon. Got that? And if anyone needs me come Thursday, you know where I’ll be–sitting inside my locked office, eating 24 glazed donuts all by myself. Because I love donuts and am super bad at sharing.
Krispy Kreme [Official]
As we told you earlier this week, Krispy Kreme is offering customers a free donut today. Federal Donuts has been celebrating all week with throwback fancies. The lineup for today and the weekend is:
- Pomegranate Nutella
- Salty Caramel Banana
- Spicy PB&J
- French Toast
- Key Lime Pie
And if you’re in the area of Reading Terminal we highly recommend stopping into their new donut emporium, Beiler’s Donuts.
The headline pretty much says it all. This Friday, June 7th, is National Doughnut Day, which is apparently something that has existed since 1938. And in honor of this hallowed holiday, Krispy Kreme is giving away free doughnuts. Read more »

Michael Klein has the scoop on Northeast Philadelphia’s Steve’s Prince of Steaks taking over the former Krispy Kreme at 16th and Chestnut. The Northeast Philadelphia spot is often cited as one of the better cheesesteaks in town and there really isn’t a dedicated cheesesteak spot west of Broad.
No timeframe for the opening.

Michael Klein has the details about Krispy Kreme pulling out of its Center City location at 16th and Chestnut. The equipment is going to the upcoming Krispy Kreme in Havertown. The final day for the downtown location is this Sunday.
The writing has been on the wall for the 16th Street location since Naked Philly spotted that the space was listed back in July. No word on what might replace the doughnut spot.
Center City’s Krispy Kreme to close [The Insider]
In case you somehow missed it, today is December 12, 2012, or 12/12/12. It’s the same backwards and forward. And for some reason everyone loses their shit. And as annoying as that might be, there are some really good events happening today, some inspired by the date, some because it’s the second Wednesday in December.

Bensalem’s Krispy Kreme will open on Monday, November 21st on Street Road near Hulmeville Road. We’re sure with this being the fourth Krispy Kreme in the area, this opening will be a calm and almost ho-hum affair. Or not, the people love their Krispy Kremes, ourselves included.
