This weekend, lots of trivia-obsessed folks will board the Spirit of Philadelphia for the 10th annual edition of Quizzo Bowl, presided over by Quizzo master Johnny Goodtimes. Here, he tells us what to expect. Read more »
Johnny Goodtimes has been hosting quizzo at Philadelphia bars for more than a decade now. And his premier event, Quizzo Bowl is in its tenth year and he’s taking the event that’s much more than a pub quiz to the high seas. This Saturday, Goodtimes and teams of trivia nerds and aces will board the Spirit of Philadelphia for a three hour tour of the Delaware River. In addition to the trivia questions, live music and a cast of characters. TJ Kong will headline the entertainment.
So get your smartest friends together, get your tickets now and compete in the event where more than $1,500 in prizes will be handed out. The ship leaves at 2:30 p.m. and will return in time for an after party at Penns Landing’s Winterfest.
Tomorrow, City Tap House is hosting another Day of Games hosted by Johnny Goodtimes. The tailgate style games like beer pong, cornhole and frisbee can jam as well as beer identification tests and scooter ball. Teams of four compete for prizes and bragging rights. The fun kicks off at 1 p.m.

Just when I thought things have gone too far, Ommegang proves me otherwise.
Danya Henninger over at Zagat Philadelphia, reported that the New York brewery has created a Game of Thrones beer, a 6.5% ABV blonde ale to be exact, and since almost everything that comes out of Ommegang is awesome, I’m sure this beer is no different (even though it’s a bit of a gimmick). So you can either wait around for the season premier on March 31st to drink it, or go drink it tonight at The P.O.P.E. at 7 p.m., where pints of Iron Throne will be on tap. Then, at 10:15 pm, quizzo-extraordinaire Johnny Goodtimes will be hosting a “Quiz of Thrones.” You’re not a real GoT fan until you drink GoT beer while playing GoT Quizzo. That’s a stone-cold fact.
Oh, and f*** Joffrey.
We’re always updating the Foobooz Calendar and here are some of the latest fun events we’ve added:
Quizzo can be a drag when you don’t know the answer. And even more of a drag when you spot a team Googling answers with their iPhones. But tonight Johnny Goodtimes is hosting a quizzo where cheaters DO prosper. Tonight at 6:30 at the MarBar at 40th and Walnut, for a price you will be able to phone a friend, use your cell phone or even ask Johnny for a major hint. All the money raised goes to the Spells Writing Lab. For more information on the lab and the event check out the Spells Writing Lab site.
Goodtimes is also in the midst of his Johnny Goodtimes Autumn Invitational where quizzo teams can qualify for his high stakes fall event. More details on how to accumulate points are available at Johnny Goodtimes.com.
Wednesday we teamed up with Goodtimes to give away some tickets to the show if you were among the first to answer these questions.
- What is the oldest continually operated tavern in Philadelphia?
- “Pat†of Pat’s Steaks is credited with inventing this Philly culinary delight in 1930. What was Pat’s last name?
- Stephen Starr has signed a letter of intent to take over the restaurant, lobby bar, and lounge of what already established Philadelphia hotel?
The answers and a quick one sheet of the event is after the jump.
UPDATE: We have winners, thanks for playing!
This Saturday, March 29th marks the Fourth Annual Quizzo Bowl, of which Foobooz is a proud sponsor. Why not? Quizzo is the realm of know-it-alls and who excels in know-it-allness better than foodies? Also, Sly Fox will be providing the beer, which is another good reason.
Here’s your chance to win free tickets, which normally cost $25 in advance, $30 at the door (and include all the Sly Fox you can drink), courtesy of Quizzo Bowl host Johnny Goodtimes. Answer the three questions after the jump — the first three people to email Johnny Goodtimes with the answers to the questions will win two free tickets each to the event…
