Tickets include bacon-ized cupcakes from Sweet Box, bacon bites from Ribs Within and two drink tickets for bacon and beer cocktails.

The first ever Philadelphia Bacon and Beer Festival is coming to to the Hotel Monaco on Sunday, December 8th. Fifteen of the city’s best bacon-loving restaurants and nine local craft breweries are participating.
The event also benefits MANNA, with at least 50% of the proceeds going to the non-profit.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, November 13th at 10 a.m. The Philadelphia festival will only be a quarter of the size the original in Boston and that one sold out in minutes. This is the fourth city the festival has gone to. Denver was added in 2012 and San Francisco had its first bacon and beer fest this year.
Tickets are $45 and include access to the festival and unlimited samples from all of the restaurants and brewers.

The Fodor’s 100 Hotel Awards is pretty much what it sounds like: a contest honoring the best 100 hotels around the world. And Philly’s own Hotel Monaco, in operation for just one year, has made the cut in the Sleek City Addresses category, which acknowledges “glossy city hotels that offer high style and first rate amenities.”
In case you haven’t seen the glorious Monaco, here’s a gallery of photos by Laura Kicey:
We’ve been keeping our eye on the progress over at the Red Owl Tavern, going into what appears to be the bottom two floors of the Hotel Monaco at 5th and Chestnut. Just this afternoon we’ve learned that a hard date–October 4–has been set for the opening of the hotel itself, Red Owl and Stratus (the rooftop cocktail lounge), and that Guillermo Tellez (of Square 1682) will now be on as exec chef for all three properties.
But what’s even better? We also got to take a look at the opening menu…
Uwishunu has a bunch of slick rendering of the upcoming Hotel Monaco that is coming to 5th and Chestnut Streets. Included in the 268 room hotel will be the 130-seat Red Owl Tavern and a 300 seat rooftop bar and lounge. The Red Owl is being described as “chef-driven” and offering a chef’s table, mezzanine seating and outdoor dining along 5th Street. The rooftop bar and lounge will be open all year with table service, heat lamps and two pavilions available for private events.
So if you’re a chef with a good name and want to run a restaurant right on Independence Mall, we’d suggest getting your resume in pronto. The hotel and Red Owl Tavern are both aiming to open this September.
