Let’s face it: In our busy lives, preparing a nutritious meal from scratch just isn’t always feasible, and the already-prepared meals available to us abound with not-so-healthy options. So when we saw over on the Philadelphia Business Journal that Snap Kitchen is coming to Philly, we had to shout the news from the rooftops (and by rooftops I mean this blog), because this Austin-based healthy market solves this dilemma magnificently. Andrew and Adam Erace are preparing to open their third location of Green Aisle Grocery. The boutique general store has locations on East Passyunk and a second on Grays Ferry Avenue in the Graduate Hospital neighborhood. The newest location, which should open this spring/early summer, will be located at 11 West Girard Avenue, same block as Sancho Pistola’s and the new Joe’s Steaks. The Fishtown Green Aisle will be about 400 square feet, bigger than the 260 square foot original but not nearly as big as G-Ho’s 1,000 sqft “megastore.” The Girard Avenue spot will have a little garden in the back where they hope to plant tomatoes, herbs and greens that they will sell.
There will also be the local, organic and gourmet provisions that have made Green Aisle a hit. Look for grass-fed steaks, raw milk, Zahav hummus, bitters, plus Green Aisle’s own line of products, including pistachio butter, five spice pickled beets and more.

Our pal HughE Dillon has sleuthed out some pretty interesting news about an organic grocery store coming to the Stapler Building at 12th and Walnut. He snapped a photo of a sign in the window, which tells us that the store will be called Everything Fresh. HughE describes it as “Whole Foods but smaller.”
Well, now ShopRite wants to help.
Not long ago we told you that Mom’s Organic was going to open in Bryn Mawr’s Rosemont Square Shopping Center in a former Borders (from books to bok choy). Yesterday, Be Well Philly spoke with the Maryland-based chain’s owner, Scott Nash, and asked why he chose Bryn Mawr for his new store — the chain’s largest store to date:
“Our other stores in Maryland and Baltimore are in the big retail areas,” he said. “So I asked a lot of people in Philly, ‘Where is your retail equivalent?’ They all said the Main Line.”
Be Wellers on the Main Line, listen up: You’re getting a big, new organic market come February. Maryland-based MOM’s Organic Market is expanding to our area with a new 17,000-square-foot store in the Rosemont Square Shopping Center at 1149 East Lancaster Avenue in Bryn Mawr.
It’s the market’s biggest store to date, founder Scott Nash told me, and if all goes well, he hopes to open more MOM’s stores in our area down the pike. “Our other stores in Maryland and Baltimore are in the big retail areas,” he said. “So I asked a lot of people in Philly, ‘Where is your retail equivalent?’ They all said the Main Line.”
