Marc Vetri’s Great Chefs Event, which brings the nation and region’s hottest chefs together for a night of curated food and drink benefiting the nonprofit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and Vetri Community Partnership, is back for its 12th year on Tuesday, June 20th.
More than 1,200 guests attended the 10th annual Great Chefs Event on Tuesday, June 9th. The yearly eating party thrown by Philadelphia super-chef Marc Vetri was held at Urban Outfitters in the Navy Yard, with proceeds going to help Alex’s Lemonade Stand fight childhood cancer, and to the Vetri Foundation for Children. Neuroblastoma took Alex Scott’s life when she was eight, and her parents, Jay and Liz Scott, carry on her goal of helping doctors find a cure for the disease.
The event attracts four dozen top chefs from the U.S. and Italy who created delicious dishes and desserts, and features both a live and a silent auction — which included clothing, lavish trips, sports tickets and experiences — that raises nearly $100,000 every year.
Last year, Brad Spence prepared a 210 pound mortadella for the Vetri Foundation’s Great Chefs Event after party. And since it is the tenth anniversary this year, Spence had to outdo himself.
Pictured to the left is this year’s 230 pound mortadella, enjoying a bath in 500 gallons of Victory beer.
Tickets are still on sale for Tuesday, June 9th’s Great Chefs event, where 40+ chefs will be cooking for two causes— Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Vetri Foundation for Children.
The event expects to raise nearly $1 million and have 1,200 attendees in the Navy Yard.
This year the after party is at Lo Spiedo and in addition to the mammoth mortadella, will feature Questlove DJing and even more food and drink.
The Great Chefs Event runs from 6 pm to 9 pm., the after party starts at 9:30 pm and runs til 2 am.
Get your tickets while you still can. Last we checked there were less than 30 tickets left to the after party.
Great Chefs Event [Vetri Foundation]
Congratulations to Michael Herman, who was picked by Marc Vetri as the winner of two VIP tickets to the Vetri Foundation Great Chefs Event. Herman and his guest will get to experience the Great Chefs Event and after party on Tuesday, June 9th.
Tickets do remain to the fundraising feast, but only 35 for the VIP party.
Check out the details at the Vetri Foundation site and hope that Michael Herman’s foie gras rotolo becomes a reality.
Each year, the Great Chefs Event brings the best chefs from all over the globe to the Navy Yard in Philadelphia resulting in dozens of memorable dishes, like last year’s Foie Gras Cotton Candy from Daikaya in DC. Take a look at the 10th annual Great Chefs Event participating chefs’ list and tweet what your dream dish would be and who you’d have make it for you. The best bite you can think of from your favorite chef of all time. For example: “I would go crazy for duck confit pho by Charles Phan” or “I want fried chicken and waffle ice cream from Big Gay Ice Cream.” Get creative—your great, great grandma’s meatballs, want to see Marc Vetri take a stab at Kung Pao Chicken or take a bite of Tom Colicchio’s frog legs?
Mark Vetri‘s 10th annual Great Chefs Event, which benefits Alex’s Lemonade Stand and the Vetri Foundation for Children, will be held on Tuesday, June 9 this year.
The Great Chefs Event is the most culinary star-studded event of the year, featuring small plates prepared by food icons from around the country. You can read the full list of participating chefs here, but some highlights include Alex Guarnaschelli, Michael Symon, Michael Solomonov, Masahuru Morimoto, Nancy Silverton and Jonathan Waxman.
General Admission tickets are $350 (don’t get sticker shock! It’s for charity!), or you can pay $525 and get access to the exclusive afterparty with the chefs (all I’ve ever wanted out of life is to get drunk with Alex Guarnaschelli– for the kids!).
The event will be held at 5000 South Broad Street. Buy your tickets here.
This Saturday, March 22nd, the Lemon Society, a young professionals group that supports Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is hosting its third annual Lemon Society Speakeasy. The prohibition-themed mixology event takes place at the Pyramid Club, high atop the BNY Mellon Center at 18th and Market.
Bartenders from across the city will be creating cocktails for the event that will be put to a vote by celebrity judges and all those in attendance.
The 8th annual Great Chefs Event, benefitting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Vetri Foundation for Children will be held June 11, 2013 at Urban Outfitters headquarters at the Navy Yard.
As always, the list of participating chefs is a who’s who of American chefdom. The event isn’t cheap with general admission tickets going for $350. But it is for a good cause and you can start saving now.
Great Chefs Event [Vetri Foundation for Children]
Tomorrow, Marc Vetri, Jeff Michaud and Jeff Benjamin will be honored at Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Lemon Ball gala for their work to find cures for all kids with cancer. The team will receive the Alex Scott Crystal Cup for their work in their Great Chef’s Event fundraiser.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand isn’t Marc Vetri’s only charitable venture. The Vetri Foundation for Children is collecting new or gently used cookbooks for Universal Audenried Charter High School and their culinary arts program. Now through January 21st they are collecting these books. Drop off your donation at any of the Vetri Family restaurants or mail them directly to the school:
