Avram Hornik After the Dolphin Tavern

The Passyunk Post is reporting that Avram Hornik is looking to reopen the Dolphin Tavern in short order. The sometimes awesome bar with occasional striptease has been closed since the summer.

Unclear is whether Hornik will continue the go-go past, either similar to what the Dolphin had going or more like what the Trestle Inn is today. We’ve got calls out to the involved parties and will update this post when we get more details.

Hornik’s empire has been rapidly expanding. He owns Lucy’s Hat Shop, Noche, Drinkers Pub, Drinkers Tavern, Drinkers West, Morgans Pier, Ortlieb’s Lounge and Union Transfer. He’s also working to restore the long abandoned Boot & Saddle, also on South Broad Street.

Trestle Inn Adding Brunch, More December Fun

The Trestle Inn at 11th and Callowhill will be adding Sunday brunch starting on New Year’s Day. How better to start the New Year than by drinking bacon washed bourbon cocktails while a drag queen performs your favorite tunes (Sounds like 2012 is going to be a year David Lynch is going to be proud of)?

Brunch fare includes:

  • House-made sticky buns
  • Nutella and banana crepes
  • cereal, made with house made granola
  • salads
  • biscuits and gravy
  • English breakfast
  • savory crepes
  • bison bacon burger

The menu will also include new hearty vegan and vegetarian options. Since this is a brunch where drinking would seem to be a must, there’s no surprise bar manager Jake Goldberg has created some special cocktails:

Tonight Make It Go-Go

We popped in to check out the new Trestle Inn Monday night and did we come away impressed. Giant projections of 60s style go-go girls dance on the walls. An entire section of the drinks menu is dedicated to whiskey sours. The menu is much more impressive than we expected. We say yes to pigs in a blanket and four kinds of caseroles. We passed on the pickled pigs feet behind the bar but kind of dig that they’re there.

Get there for happy hour that runs from from 5 to 8 p.m. and features features ½ price pitchers of whisky sours, $3 Craft Cans and a featured whiskey of the evening.

Later in the evening the Trestle Specials dance on go-go blocks to music from the 60’s and 70’s, including Funk, Psychobilly and Soul.

Go Go Returning to Trestle Inn

The splash page is up, the Facebook page is alive, the Twitter feed exists. The old Trestle Inn at 11th and is going to be reborn this October and it’s premise sounds pretty awesome to us, “whiskey and go go.”

We’ll give you more details just as soon as we have them.

In the meantime check out these photos we recently took of the Trestle’s exterior.
