The Igloo, a healthy and all-natural frozen dessert emporium, opened its doors to its second location, located in the Gayborhood on the corner of 12th and Walnut streets, on March 1, and given the amazing selection of homemade yogurts and gelatos available, this is one place where you won’t mind the chill.
Owner Isaac Parker opened his first Igloo store on Grays Ferry Avenue several years ago. There, he and his team created a carefully curated collection of wholesome, high-quality frozen desserts which became quite popular with Philly locals, especially the homemade frozen Greek yogurt. The new Gayborhood shop, housed in the former Yogorino location next to Starbucks, continues that tradition, but adds a few fresh twists that are unlike other self-serve yogurt franchises throughout the city.

Tomorrow, March 1st will see a 20 degree jump in temperature. Certainly not balmy but a lot better than 24°. It’s also the grand opening of The Igloo at 1205 Walnut Street. The frozen yogurt spot will throw open its doors at noon. In addition to the frozen yogurt that their 23rd and Grays Ferry location is known for, they will also be offering a Greek yogurt and skim milk protein shake.

If you’re looking for a frozen treat that’s guiltless and tasty, look no further than The Lite Choice. The chain of 22 stores has stuck their flag down on 16th Street between Walnut & Locust for their flagship store.
This is the third area Lite Choice for Philadelphia. A storefront opened at 135 South Street last October and at 121 Market Street in Collegeville this past April.
Each store produces all of the company’s 80 flavors on-site, and offers toppings including freshly diced fruit, assorted candy and crumbled cookies for both soft serve and scoopable flavors.

Fairmount’s popular Philly Flavors will soon be opening a location at 44 S 19th Street. The ice cream, Italian ice and frozen yogurt spot sports a similar blue-and-white pinstripe look to its Fairmount neighbor and received its awning this weekend.
The addition of the ice cream parlor should soften the loss of Scoop de Ville on Chestnut Street.

Gozen Frozen Yogurt is going to begin vending at the Wells Fargo Center, starting tonight. Gozen, which has existed as a frozen yogurt truck until now, will be available at a booth behind section 109.
We’ve certainly seen food trucks go to storefronts but this might be the first truck to stadium migration.

It’s cold enough for an Igloo but the Igloo at the intersection of Grays Ferry and South Street is a frozen dessert spot. The window graphics promise healthy, natural and chill. Things we might be interested in after this cold wave breaks.
According to the South of South Neighbors Association, the sorbet, frozen yogurt, and water ice is aiming to open by mid-February.
