The Checkup: The Sneaky Way Your Body Is Telling You to Change Your Workout Routine

• Sore muscles seem to be the signifier that you crushed your gym sesh, riiiight? Well, it turns out that feeling that kicks in 24 to 48 hours after your workout, called delayed onset muscle soreness, or DOMS, could actually be your body’s way of telling you to change your workout routine. While DOMS can be a good sign after you’ve, say, tried out SoulCycle for the first time, it can be a bad sign if you seem to be sore after every single workout. If you seem to have chronic DOMS, your body may be telling you you need more rest days or that you need to reconfigure your workout routine entirely. [SELF]

The Checkup: The Coffee Mistake to Blame for Your Mid-Morning Hanger

• There was a time in a my life when I would drink not one, but TWO Venti White Mochas from Starbucks every. Single. Day. My point: I’m not here to judge. That said, if you feel your energy slumping and hunger setting in after your sweet morning mocha (or chai, or whatever your syrup-laden caffeinated drink of choice is), even though you JUST ate breakfast, you might want to try a plain ol’ black coffee, says dietitian Keith Kantor. coffee-wawa-940x540

This week is shaping up to be a pretty good one.

Why? First, the warm weather brought a sort of early summer to Philly yesterday, and the balmy temperatures are supposed to stick around all week. And now – news that’s just as likely to bring a smile to your face – Wawa will give out free coffee on Thursday.

In celebration of its 53rd anniversary, the company will hand out cups of any size. And while you might not be happy with Wawa hoagies, we can all get behind free coffee.

“Wawa Day provides us with a chance to connect with and honor the millions of customers we’ve served over the past 53 years who have been so integral to Wawa’s growth over that time,” Wawa President and CEO Chris Gheysens said in a press release. “It’s always exciting to celebrate our customers, associates and communities by giving away one of our most beloved products, Wawa coffee!”

Wawa is also celebrating a milestone with the three-year-old Wawa Foundation, a non-profit organization through which the company aims to donate $50 million to “causes supporting health, hunger and every day heroes by 2018,” according to a press release.

The company expects to give out two million cups of coffee at its more than 750 stores across six states. It would be the most coffee given away by the company to date.

The Checkup: 10 Trader Joe’s Foods You’ll Probably Regret Buying

Trader Joe’s is like a best friend: You love them with all your heart, but every now and then, they do something that makes you want to scream at the top of your lungs, “Why did you make that god-awful mistake?!?!” My first experience with this at Trader Joe’s was when I purchased the salmon jerky. (I know: I should’ve known it would be gross — but I didn’t.) That creation is, in fact, a mistake. Here, one writer outlines 10 more items at Trader Joe’s — like the pre-made sushi, which I can also confirm is a mistake —that, in her opinion, taste absolutely terrible. Do note: The extensive comments section is also worth perusing. [Man Repeller]
