This Saturday, July 19th, the 3rd Annual Dog Days of Summer Cook-Off is back and bigger than ever. Last year’s event featured 11 restaurants and food trucks, and this year’s will feature 20. The judges’ decision will be much more difficult and as a visitor, your stomach will be much more full.
Starting at 1 p.m., guests are welcome to sample the hot dogs, enjoy craft beer from Victory Brewing Company, jam out to live music and even vote for their favorite dog of the day. General admission is free, but food/drinks tickets cost $10 for 4 and $30 for 15. Or, if you’re looking for that VIP treatment, spend $30 and get early access at noon, a VIP gift, and 20 food/drink tickets. Proceeds will go to the preservation of the Headhouse Square Shambles. Machete Kills actor Danny Trejo got around town last night. We know he was at the Flyers game but he also made an appearance at the Ritz East movie theater. There, he and director Robert Rodriguez joined Christina Clark and Jennifer Zavala on the Cherry Bomb Bus. Trejo and Rodriguez hopped on the bus and housed some walking tacos and giant Mexican chocolate chip cookies.
The Cherry Bomb Bus was on hand to give out free tacos to customers who attended an advance screening of the movie.

Jen Zavala and Christina Clark have been talking about launching their Cherry Bomb Bus food truck since January, 2012.
In a Facebook post a week ago they seem to say they’re ready to go but the where and when has still not been mentioned.
Yesterday the menu was posted on their Facebook page and they do promise that every Saturday they will be serving a roasted or smoked whole pig (right down to the brains). But as for where? We’re still in the dark. But how hard can it be to find a florescent pink bus?
