You May Not Have Seen The Last Of The Budino Donut


On Friday, Marcie Turney, Valerie Safran and their crew sold 450 salted caramel budino donuts in 30 minutes (or actually, probably a little less) across the Marcie Blaine chocolates counter at Verde on 13th Street.

On the following day, they sold 590 donuts in an hour and twenty minutes–590 donuts being the absolute maximum number of donuts that the team had been able to make between the minute they sold out on Friday and the minute they went on sale again on Saturday. The line to get one stretched out the door, down the block and around the corner. It was crazy. And you’d think, with the obvious success of this two-day donut sale, that Turney and Safran would already be making plans to do it again, right?

Well, yes and no. What they’re actually planning on doing is more.

Yes, Those Really Are Budino Donuts


Actually, its a test-batch of salted caramel crusted, budino-filled donuts from Valerie Safran and Marcie Turney, who are apparently working on bringing Philly’s donut wars to an entirely new level with the pastry equivalent of an atom bomb.

A delicious, caramel-y, budino-y atom bomb.

Last Minute Valentine’s Day Sweets


Looking for some last minute sweeties for your sweetie? Barbuzzo and Kermit’s have you covered.

Barbuzzo is offering its Budino Is for Lovers two packs at Verde (108 S 13th Street). The two-packs are $15 and can be picked up from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and tomorrow.

Kermit’s Bake Shoppe at 22nd and Washington has several special Valentine’s Day offerings. Among the goods that the bakery is offering are a Red Velvet Cake with cream cheese butter cream centers and cocoa krispies covered in chocolate ganache. Pink and White Cookies with pink and white fondant over black and white citrus shortbread cookies. Kermit’s URA 10 Sweetheart Cake is available in blue, green, yellow and of course pink. The cake can be customized with other Candy Hearts appropriate sayings like “Love Bug,” “Cutie Pie” and “Hot Bod.”

Good News: Marcie Turney is going to be selling them all weekend long.

Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. the delicious treats on sticks will be available at Verde.

Just about every restaurant in the Philadelphia is doing a special menu for Valentine’s Day. Many of which are being offered all weekend. This Saturday through Christmas Eve, Barbuzzo’s Salted Caramel Budino will be available for pick-up at neighboring Verde. The delicious dessert in a glass has won Best of Philly and just about every other award a dessert can.

No preorder is necessary, just stop in and pick up one. Or more likely, several as you won’t want to share.

Budino pops, we hardly knew you. In fact we haven’t met you face-to-face yet. And if you’d like to bite into a frozen pop of creamy caramel pudding, frozen around a core of salted caramel and dark chocolate cookie crumbs, dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt, well then you have to plan on getting one this weekend. The invention of chef Marcie Turney and her Barbuzzo staff, this frozen treat is available today through Sunday at Turney’s Verde (108 S 13th Street), but just from noon to 2 p.m.
