Jon Adler has sold his Graduate Hospital coffee shop, Beauty Shop Cafe to the team from Farmers’ Cabinet. According to Adler, the Farmers’ Cabinet team plans some cosmetic changes but will continue to run the property as a café.
Beauty Shop Cafe held down the northwest corner of 20th and Fitzwater for six years, overseeing the sweeping changes that have come to the Graduate Hospital neighborhood. The coffee shop was a must stop-in spot for politicos, publicans, Phillies fans, construction workers, coffee geeks and even the odd quizzo host. When I ran Foobooz on my own, it was also my morning office and the source of more tips and stories than it ever had any right to be.

We love ourselves some Sriracha sauce and we were excited to see The New York Times compiling a list of Sriracha enriched dishes from coast to coast.
Just imagine our disappointment though when we realized the listed Pennsylvania entry of Philly Cheesesteak dumplings with Sriracha ketchup is from Fireside, a restaurant at 52nd and Madison in New York City!
Now luckily, this won’t be published until next Wednesday, so there’s time to fix this outrage. What’s your favorite Sriracha enhanced food in Philadelphia? Our perfect recession food might just be the grilled cheese, as we’ve been on the record as saying, a great grilled cheese might just be an explosion of taste in your mouth.
Well the Beauty Shop Cafe at 20th and Fitzwater concurs and is now offering build your own grilled cheeses.
The basic grilled cheese starts at $3.50 and you can add toppings for a $1 a piece. All sandwiches are served on whole wheat bread and cooked on the shop’s vintage grilled cheese press.

Stephen Starr is heading south to FLA. Starr will be opening a steakhouse in the lobby of the W Hotel and Residences that’s going up on Ft. Lauderdale Beach. Perhaps it’s his chance to get an inside look at the hotel business, he’s long mentioned a boutique hotel as a future project.
