December 31st isn’t just New Year’s Eve for these bars. It also means the end of of times for The Blockley, Alfa/The Ten Six Club and Lucy’s Hat Shop. Each bar is closing for good as new development and rising rents are forcing them out.
Have no fear. Chef Katz isn’t closing Meme, packing up his clan and moving to the mountains. This weekend, he’s teaming up with Fork’s Terence Feury and Joseph Hunt of Alfa and Loco Pez (word has it that Benny Lai from Vietnam is tagging along, too) for the annual Taste of Philadelphia weekend at Skytop Lodge in the Poconos, featuring a cocktail party with the chefs on Friday and a collaborative dinner on Saturday. The cost per couple is $390 per night, which includes three meals a day and tons of Poconos-y activities like fishing, archery, hiking, and sitting in a hammock happy to be breathing mountain air.
Last night was the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival Preview Party held at the Ritz Carlton Philadelphia and as part of the night was a People’s Choice award for best cocktail. The competition featured eleven Rittenhouse Row restaurants and bars and were made with either Ketel One Vodka, Tanqueray, or Jose Cuervo Tradicional Silver.

It’s Restaurant Week and the full restaurants are good for owners but it can certainly put a strain on servers and kitchen staff. So Alfa is offering a latenight craft beer special. From 11pm to 1am there will be $3 glasses of a special craft beer.
