Third Street Habit Will Close Its Doors in May

We know, it's tragic. But mark your calendars – owner January Bartle says the Old City boutique will hold one last First Friday happy hour next month.

Third Street Habit owner January Bartle announced earlier this week that the beloved Old City store will close its doors forever in May.

Bartle opened her shop at 153 North 3rd St. in 2004. The trendy, bohemian boutique is a Philly favorite, known for carrying popular designers like Isabel Marant, Rag&Bone, Ulla Johnson, Mercado Global, J Brand and Joie.

We’re going to miss it.

There are a few slivers of good news: Everything in the store is 50 percent off, now through closing day. Plus, Liz Knowles, who’s worked at the shop for eight years and has a “remarkable eye,” Bartle said, is branching off as a personal stylist. Look out for her work in the Philly and Main Line area.

Bartle said her favorite part of running the business (which was once named one of the top ten boutiques in the country by Lucky Magazine) has been “watching our clients and friends grow up. Girls that shopped with us in high school still come in – babies in tow!”

There’s no official closing date yet, but Bartle said she’s looking at the second week of May at latest. Swing by the boutique between 5 and 9 p.m. on May 5th for one last First Friday happy hour, or “one last hoorah in the neighborhood we love,” Bartle said.

She’ll auction the much-loved red parlor couch that she opened the store with – and 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward PAWS, Philly’s largest no-kill shelter and low-cost pet-care provider.
