More New Stores Open Today: Timberland and Frey Boutique

Center City and Newtown Square get new stores today.

This week has been a whirlwind of store openings, parties and previews. The ones generating the most buzz are Century 21 and Nordstrom Rack (see my reviews and sneak peeks of each here and here). But, lest we forget, there are two other stores opening their doors today: Timberland in Rittenhouse, and Frey Boutique in Newtown Square.

As we previously reported, Frey shuttered its Exton location for a move to 3555 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square. Head there tonight from 6pm to 8pm to see the new space, shop the selection and enjoy cocktails and small bites.

In Center City, Timberland opened its doors this morning at 1709 Walnut Street, 5,800 square feet of rugged men’s and women’s clothing and shoes. Our brother blog, GPhilly, checked it out, despite initial reluctance: “For years Timberland has been known for that brown work boot that set the hip-hop world ablaze and, if anything else, rugged-woodsmen clothing that didn’t exactly appeal to your everyday gay man (i.e. me.),” wrote editor Josh Middleton. Read his thoughts (spoiler: He was pleasantly surprised!) here. The store itself looks incredible, with a woodsy-meets-urban feel that doesn’t come across as forced or inauthentic.

This weekend, Timberland is joining a bevy of other Rittenhouse shops for a Halloween celebration; go there for free face-painting for kids (from 11am to 2pm), mini soft pretzels and other treats.
