Shoppists, Mother’s Day is in two days. Two. If you haven’t picked up a gift or ordered a bouquet for Mom yet, there’s still time. Instead of hustling to the closest grocery store for a sad leftover arrangement, hit up one of these local florists or farmers markets for a bouquet that’s both beautiful and looks thoughtful. Because let’s be honest: flowers are the most fail-proof Mother’s Day gift out there.
Flowers & Company: Voted Best of Philly in 2012, we like this flower shop for its seasonal and unique fresh-cut floral stems available for walk-ins. 119 South 19th Street, Philadelphia PA 19103; 215-988-9171.
Petit Jardin en Ville: Old City’s newest—and only—Parisian flower shop (really, they opened on May 2), is probably the prettiest place on the list to swing by for a bouquet. 134 North 3rd Street, Philadelphia PA 19106; 215-923-1600.
Pure Design: Go here for flowers with an artsy edge. 22nd and Lombard Streets, Philadelphia PA 19103; 215-545-6666.
Plus, check out all the farmers markets in the ‘burbs! Many vendors have cut flowers you can fashion into a bouquet on the fly. For all 76 farmers markets in the area, read the roundup on our sister blog Be Well Philly.
West Windsor Community Farmers Market: Get Mom orchids via Stony Brook Orchids; they bring a variety from their orchid greenhouse in Pennington, New Jersey. Open from 9am to 1pm on Saturday. Princeton Junction train Station at West Windsor’s Vaughn Drive commuter lot.
Ambler Farmers Market: Open from 9am to 1pm on Saturdays, the market will host vendors including Pennypack Farm and Cultivating Joy, both of which stock flowers. Corners of Butler and Maple Avenue, in the SEPTA parking lot.
Collegeville Farmers Market: Go here between 9am to 1pm on Saturdays for a selection of flowers from vendors like Behmerwald Nursery. 217 East Main Street, parking lot at Da Vinci’s pub, Collegeville.
