PICS: Michael Kors Casually Stopped by Joan Shepp and Knit Wit Yesterday

The designer and former Project Runway judge scopes out the Philly retail scene before his Walnut Street store opens this spring.

If you saw a guy roaming around the streets of Philly yesterday wearing a chic black jacket, black tee and aviators, it just might have been Michael Kors. Yes, that Michael Kors, the guy behind the American jet-setter fashion empire, the soon-to-be flagship store on Walnut Street, and some of Project Runway‘s most biting commentary.

Kors was in town for the Cher show, but he made a point to visit some of Philly’s top boutiques, Knit Wit and Joan Shepp, before he surely hopped on his gilded private jet and flew away.

I spoke with Tuesday Gordon, Shepp’s infamously fabulous shopkeep, to get the (fashionable) dirt on his shopping visits.

“He was here with his husband and two other friends. He’s an old friend of mine. He came by to welcome us to our new space. He stayed for about a half an hour and chatted with us. He’s so nice,” Gordon says.

As for his Philly location, slated to open this spring in the old Burberry space? “He’s very excited about the Philly store, and to be in the company of all of us together,” Gordon says. “He wanted to know more about our store, he wished us luck and congratulated us on our new location, and we wished him luck and congratulated him.”

Who knows? Maybe he’ll stick around for Project Runway winner Dom Streater’s fashion presentation at Knit Wit tonight!

(Psst: As for Shepp’s new location, Gordon tells me they plan to move the first week of June.)
