[UPDATE 1:45pm] A group of a dozen or so people gathered outside of City Hall this afternoon to hear the mayor and PREIT CEO Joseph Coradino announce—officially—the plans for the retail development at the historic Strawbridge & Clothier building. The deal was signed two days ago, and Century 21 is slated for an October opening. It will be 16,000 square feet, located on the ground level and second floor of the building.

[Original 10:38am] We got word this morning that daily newspaper employees would have to stop using the lobby at 801 Market Street as their primary entrance to the building because a retailer is (finally) moving on in. The Inquirer claims it’s Century 21, which is awesome. (I’ve gotten some great designer finds at the massive flagship store in NYC.)

Mayor Nutter is making an official announcement at noon today. Stay tuned for more.
