The Look: How To Stay Warm In Cocktail Dresses

Philly Mag staffer Maeve Gavin shows how she warms up her party look.

Maeve Gavin is an events marketing manager here at Philly Mag, which means she goes to a lot of parties. Perhaps this is how she’s perfected her party look: equal parts form (that dress!) and function (cool tights keep her legs warm). Keep reading to find out where she scored her look, and her favorite places to shop, both in Philly and online.

The Look: Warby Parker glasses [editor’s note: You can find the brand at Art in The Age in Old City!]; Ann Taylor earrings; “Mrs” necklace from Kate Spade, “Love” necklace from Open House [editor’s note: You can also find this at sister store Verde]; gold bracelet from Morocco (“It was given to me by my aunt. Total keepsake item—the only day I’ve taken it off was my wedding day”); Anthropologie dress (“I love emerald green”) [Psst: It’s sold out, but this Anthro frock packs a similar bright green punch]; Nicole Miller tights (“I got these at Philly Mag Shops this year!”); Nine West shoes.

My Style: “Feminine, girly, romantic. I love wearing bright colors to brighten up the cold winter months.”

Where I Shop: “I love to shop at Anthro, Ann Taylor for workwear, Rue La La (80 percent of my clothing and gifts come from here!), and Verde amd Open House.”

That outfit looks ridiculous. The separate components are fine but when you put them together, it looks like the top half of her body and the bottom half are going to two different places.

I think this headline is a little misleading… I can’t imagine staying warm with my arms completely exposed… anybody else?

Hey, Ali G! Of course, you need to wear a jacket on top when you’re outside, but that’s easy to take off once you’re inside the party. Keeping legs warm is the tough part, and a pair of cute tights can help, so you still look cute at the party, but stay warm when you leave. And if you still want to cover up your arms? A cropped blazer is perfect. :)

This woman is gorgeous. Her sense of style is on point. Plus, she could wear anything with that adorable smile! I love Shoppist and I would totally wear this outfit.

How in the world does anything in this article help keep me warm? It doesn’t even suggest coats/shawl/legwear. :(
