Shoppist’s 25 Gifts of Christmas: Day 5

Today’s gift of the day: the coolest wooden skateboard made in Philly.

Xmas5Now that the holidays are officially upon us, we here at Shoppist are in full gifting mode. Each day this month, we’ll unveil our 25 top gifts to buy in Philly this season. (Trust us: We’ve shopped everywhere to bring you the best of the best.)

Why we here at Shoppist love this skateboard: It’s refreshingly free of bold designs and graphics, and crafted of reclaimed walnut by Kensington-based woodworker, artist and designer (and former pro-surfer) Ben McBrien, of Farmhaus Modern. The skateboard feels like the rest of his collection: a regular object elevated to something of an art form. (See: His gorgeous cutting boards.)

The Details: Farmhaus walnut skateboard, $325 at Art Star, 623 North 2nd Street, Northern Liberties.

Give To: Your little brother.

this is an absurd suggestion for someone to give to his or her younger brother. if he actually does skate, he would most likely shop at Reign, Nocturnal, or Exit skateshop, all of which would be better places to purchase a board. where is the practicality in this list?
