The Look: Corduroy and Cuffed Jeans

The favorite Philly haunts of design director Michael Wilson.

This week, Philly Mag’s design director, Michael Wilson, took a turn in front of the camera. The former Esquire designer is always impeccably turned out, with a flair that mixes prep with a bit of edge (you can’t see in the photo, but he’s got amazing tattoo sleeves).

The Look: Slim-fit blue oxford button-down from Club Monaco; 484 jeans from J.Crew (“I like them because they aren’t super-skinny”); belt from a store in Durango, Colorado (“The store was called Hell Bent Leather. Anything named after a Judas Priest song, I have to go check out”); Allen Edmonds for Brooks Brothers shoes (“It was a limited collaboration, but I have a few pairs from Allen Edmonds on 17th and Chestnut; they’ve got a huge selection of shoes”); Baron-Wells black corduroy sport coat (“It was a gift from my wife”); Timex Weekender watch.

My Style: “Somewhere between Oxford English professor and New England fisherman. I lean towards way more traditional stuff. All the better if its made here in the states. [My philosophy is] keep it simple. Wear things that fit. Find a good barber. A good haircut goes a long way. Buy some new socks.”

Where I shop: “J.Crew, Allen Edmonds, Club Monaco, Duke & Winston, Commonwealth Proper, Suitsupply, Ralph Lauren, H&M, and I. Goldberg for Levi’s and wool socks for winter. Sometimes they have those big awesome army parkas. I bought one there years ago.”
