Style-wise, sports-wise, and otherwise, beach-dwelling surfers are the coolest of the cool. Those bods. Those clothes. Those accessories (surfboard, wax …). Those hookups. That hair. Still, every once in a while, a foam-board toting shoob like yours truly makes a lucky stop along LBI’s never-ending boulevard and falls upon a surf shop-cum-art gallery so effortlessly hip, so entirely cool, that while this lamo weekend warrior is there, she feels like she could hang — if she tried.

Just south of the island’s landmark Wawa, in funky Ship Bottom, surfer-artist Julie Goldstein helms Pine, a surf shop — featuring Danny Hess surf boards, classic Shortstraw board shorts, handmade jewelry, and Goldstein’s own limited edition woodcut-printed Ts (I heart the one that says, simply, “Beer”) — and art gallery, which, right now, is exhibiting local photographer Chris Pfeil’s crisp black-and-white waves, along with his coolest-ever light box of bright, surf-inspired slides (a steal at $2,200).
