The fall issue of Philadelphia Home will be hitting newsstands soon, and one of its running themes is buying fine art for your walls. (Sure beats endless Olan Mills family portraits or motel-room-style landscapes.) And when you can collect a local artist, even better.
The style guides at Ligne Roset know this, so they’ll be exhibiting Philadelphia-based artist Martha Madigan’s series of Botanical Portraits at the store through the end of September. Madigan’s photograms are created with paper, Plexiglas, the sun, a computer, the scanning of actual leaves, flowers and plants ... but no camera. The resulting solar-burned and artist-mastered prints capture the ethereal grace of nature, including the subtle shapes of river lily, bamboo, thistle, alium and foxglove.
Stop by the exhibit kickoff on Wednesday, August 6th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; partial proceeds from some sales will benefit the Tyler School of Art.
