He’s the Jacques Cousteau of the fashion world. Temple grad and current Philly resident Brian Linton founded environmentally friendly apparel and jewelry line Sand Shack as a 19-year-old college freshman, combining ocean conservation work with an eco-chic sense of style and an acute business acumen.

Having spent childhood summers in Cape Cod with his grandfather, Linton treasured the pristine shores and unpolluted water. Sand Shack products, a surfer-preppy fusion, reflect the laid-back coastal lifestyle, but also actively champion the preservation of seascapes across the globe: Five percent of all proceeds support efforts to protect the world’s oceans and beaches.

The Shore-perfect, natural-material jewelry, hats, belts and sandals for both men and women (plaid baseball caps with sea-themed vintage patches, straw or leather flip flops, bamboo pendant necklaces for the ladies, shell chokers for the guys) are available online at sandshack.com and in more than 150 stores nationwide, including Fresh Ayer (100 E. Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, 610-688-4933, freshayer.com) locally — plus fifteen stores along the Jersey Shore.

Linton also uses recycled boxes for shipping and sponsors eco-friendly events. Check out this Saturday’s free event, The “Keep it Blue” Fair in Stone Harbor (9425 Third Avenue), in collaboration with The Wetlands Institute. For more details visit sandshack.com/events/.
