High-Brow Style

Philly welcomes a new kind of bar to town

I've always worn my not-at-all-subtle brows proudly. In high school, while all of my girlfriends plucked theirs into barely there arches. In New York, when my colleagues had theirs thinned to slivers. And now in Philly, even though I know my facialists are just dying to get their hands on them.

All that said, "the girls" do get their share of maintenance. Trouble is, my (admittedly subtle) brow sessions have been the only "upkeep" appointments I still keep in New York. After nearly a decade of working with the same downtown aesthetician — bless her heart — it's just been too hard to end the affair. Until now.

See, The Powder Room has just opened its "Brow Bar," where brow shaper and "Arch Angel" extraordinaire Ani Proodian will be working her magic to trim, tweeze, tint, and wax brows to perfection. Ani insists that she doesn't do the kind of cookie cutter brows or "Brow Overs" I so detest; instead, she transforms arches based on her clients' facial profile, eye shape, and brow texture.

All of which makes me — finally — ready to say adios to my NY sessions and hello to The Powder Room.
