Philly environmentalist Tony Fisher celebrated Earth Day this past April by opening a
second outpost of his popular Old City shelter shop, the Big Green Earth Store, on South Street. The hodgepodge of products it carries — rechargeable batteries, pencils made from recycled bamboo, solar laptop bags, recycled plastic utensils, chic bamboo tops from EcoGear, and some locally crafted accessories — all have to pass Fisher’s good-for-the-globe test, either by being made from repurposed materials or by conserving the Earth’s natural resources. And he’s leading by example: The new shop’s earth-tone palette, construction and decoration (fluorescent light bulbs and decor crafted from soda bottles and magazines) are all environmentally friendly. Sometimes it is easy being green. 934 South Street and 239 Market Street; 267 - 909 - 8661, biggreenearthstore.com.

What recession? The King of Prussia mall continues to expand with a slew of new high-end shops. The Plaza is now home to beauty-product line Kiehl’s, a branch of the always - reliable women’s boutique Michael Kors, and the first PA location of Italian classic Gucci. After temporarily closing to renovate, Hermès has unveiled its new space, which is modeled after the Paris flagship and has more than doubled in size. Pick up a limited-edition silk scarf created exclusively for the KOP store. 610 - 265 - 5727, kingofprussiamall.com.
