Expand your shopping horizons past Walnut Street, and you might stumble onto something Center City needs more of: independent boutiques with approachable price points. Jack and Jill — recently opened on 22nd Street near Sansom — offers just that, with playful apparel and accessories for men and women, most of it priced below $200. Bubbly owner Anh Nguyen, who spent years honing her style sense at tony spots like Neiman Marcus, has assembled a collection of popular standbys, like upbeat dresses from Cynthia Steffe, plus under-the-radar finds from French label Cop.Copine. But affordable doesn’t mean thoughtless. Nguyen loves helping customers put together complete looks — and will even deliver clothes right to your door.

Also just opened When Suky owner Mary Helen Ranieri decided it was time to trade in the sprawling Ardmore outpost of her special-occasion shop for something more intimate, the one place she never thought she’d wind up was the original Bryn Mawr location, first opened more than 30 years ago. But she’s happy to be home. While still carrying all the brands brides covet (Vera, Monique), her shop now has more of a boutique feel, for all those non-brides flocking in for au courant Academy Ball and black-tie looks.
