New Service: Disappearing Act

By Carrie Denny

As if we needed another reason to keep Ardmore mainstay Suky on our list for special-occasion gowns: If someone you know has a surgical or cancer-related scar she’s self-conscious about showing in a mother-of-the-bride or black-tie-gala gown, Suky owner Mary Helen Ranieri will work with designers (including Rose Taft and Stephen Yearick) and her own genius seamstresses to raise necklines, add sleeves or create a wrap, to hide the evidence. “It’s so important to look in the mirror and like what you see in order to feel good and move forward,” says Ranieri. “No woman should have to look at pictures from a happy occasion and remember herself as sick.”
